Support for Preschoolers

West Yorkshire is one of the first regions in the UK to launch a walking project dedicated to helping families with preschool children to walk more as part of their journey to nursery.

The scheme was launched in January by the Mayor of West Yorkshire, Tracy Brabin with a special assembly for children and parents at Lapage Primary School in Barkerend, Bradford.

We will be looking to work with early years settings across West Yorkshire and will support over 30 nurseries and schools throughout 2023.

The scheme is being delivered in partnership with national walking charity, Living Streets through their dedicated ‘Little Feet’ project - working with children, schools, and their families to encourage those who don’t usually walk to school to give it a go and see the benefits they can experience. Time to talk with children, observe nature and enjoy being outside.

The scheme will help support over 900 young children and encourage families to commit to healthy travel, instilling positive habits that can last a lifetime.
