Community organisations we’ve worked with in Wakefield.

Altofts Community and Sports Foundation – a charity aimed at helping improve and develop better social, sporting and community facilities in the wider Altofts area.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: the creation of a community bike workshop.

Bring Me To Life Wellness - plugs the gender gap in local health provision by providing wellness methods, therapies and opportunities to support women’s physical, mental and emotional wellbeing.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: a women’s walking group, including a weekly pram walk, and two weekly evening walk and talks.

Dream Time Creative – a social enterprise company that works with both public and private funding organisations to empower communities through creativity.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: the translation of a Louisa Fennell walking guide for people who don’t speak English. 

Empath Action CIC - uses the Arts in all its forms to uplift, upskill and empower people to improve mental health, reach their potential and connect with others.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: “Guided by Gissing” walking trails inspired by the naturalist Thomas Gissing, encouraging people to wildflower spot in nature reserves, country parks and woodlands.  

Evergreen Active CIC - a not-for-profit organisation aimed at improving community health, wellbeing, and social cohesion through physical activity.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: led walks for older or inactive people in Wakefield and Leeds.

Frickley Athletic Community Foundation - established in 2018 with the aim of bringing the communities of South Elmsall, South Kirkby, Upton and the surrounding areas together through a range of activities.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: led walks and runs for isolated members of the community.

Groundwork – a federation of charities mobilising practical community action on poverty and the environment across the UK.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: running workplace challenges and activities in Wakefield and Leeds to encourage people to walk to and from work, as well as during the day; the creation of “Know my area” walking packs; led walks.

Horbury Civic Society - a membership organisation run by volunteers that gives local people a voice in helping to shape where they live and work.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: expanding existing self-guided walks using QR codes and new led walks around Horbury.

Lightwaves Community Trust - works with Wakefield College and Wakefield Council to deliver high quality sports facilities to the people of Wakefield and surrounding areas.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: free bike storage for people in the community.

Open Country – a charity helping people with disabilities to access and enjoy the countryside.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: an A5 booklet about accessible walking and wheelchair routes across Wakefield. 

Reflections Yorkshire CIC - Provides drug, alcohol and mental health support to vulnerable people.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: bikes to enable a cycling arm of the Man Matters project targeting vulnerable adult males.

Senior Citizens Support Programme - runs a programme of activities and events designed to provide a level of interest and motivation that ensures its members get out and about, meet others and socialise within the community and beyond.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: led walks for elderly members of the community who suffer from mobility issues, either existing or triggered by lockdown restrictions during the pandemic. 

Star Bereavement Support Service - provides a range of bereavement support services to children and young people in Wakefield.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: group walk and talk sessions for young people who have had a bereavement (and their families/carers).
