Community organisations we've worked with in Leeds.

Better Action for Families – a charity working to improve the lives of people with learning disabilities and their families in Leeds.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: accessible and inclusive group cycling activities.

The Big Bike Fix Leeds (in partnership with St Luke’s Cares) - a group that collects and repairs unwanted bikes to donate to people in need.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: growing the bike recycling programme and bike maintenance workshops.

Black Health Initiative – a charity helping disadvantaged communities in and around Leeds to access health and social care.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: the creation of a bike loan offer from their existing hub, including training people to manage this.

Boston Spa, Wetherby and Villages Green Group (in partnership with Boston Spa Parish Council) – a group aimed at protecting the environment and reducing people's carbon footprint.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: a bike recycling scheme for people in need.

Bramley Baths - a community-led, not-for-profit centre for fitness, health and fun, which houses a public gym, swimming pool, steam room and space for community events, meetings and fitness classes.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: inclusive walking groups around Bramley.

Cross Gates & District Good Neighbours Scheme – a charity that works with and for older people to reduce loneliness and isolation, support independence, promote healthy lifestyles and try new things.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: mental health and companionship support walks.

Evergreen Active CIC - a not-for-profit organisation aimed at improving community health, wellbeing, and social cohesion through physical activity.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: led walks for older or inactive people in Leeds and Wakefield.

Grassroots Events Leeds (in partnership with Thorpe Edge Community Project) - runs fun and accessible music and community events across Leeds and West Yorkshire.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: pedal-powered film screenings in Leeds and Bradford to encourage people to cycle. 

Groundwork – a federation of charities mobilising practical community action on poverty and the environment across the UK.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: running workplace challenges and activities in Leeds and Wakefield to encourage people to walk to and from work, as well as during the day; the creation of “Know my area” walking packs; led walks.

HOPE - Halton Moor & Osmondthorpe Project for Elders – a neighbourhood network offering a variety of services and activities for older people.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: led walks for isolated older people.

Kirkstall Valley Development Trust – a charity that aims to enhance life in Kirkstall, through its community hub, farm and food pantry.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: E-bike loan scheme for volunteers.

Leeds Bicycle Co-operative (trading as Pedallers’ Arms) – a community workshop to learn how to repair your bike in a friendly atmosphere.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: bike maintenance workshops for people on low incomes.

Leeds Bike Mill – a community bike recycling and cycle training co-operative.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: increasing capacity at its bike repair and maintenance with recycled bikes available to borrow; refurbished bike donation scheme for people on low incomes; and “Dr Bike” drop-ins for people to access minor bike repairs during the pandemic.

Leeds Dads (in partnership with Leeds Christian Community Trust) - a voluntary organisation that brings together a diverse community of fathers for social interaction and support.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: a led walking group for dads and a summer picnic event, nature walks and forest school for dads and their children. 

Leeds Irish Health and Homes - a charity at the forefront of providing services to meet the current and developing needs of the Irish community in Leeds.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: led walks and bikes for led rides to improve the wellbeing of isolated older men.

Leeds LGBT+ Community Consortium – a group working with partners to reduce social isolation amongst older, unwell, disabled or otherwise restricted members of the LGBTQ+ communities.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: walking activities for older members of the LGBTQ+ community who were isolated during the pandemic. 

Middle Eastern and Mediterranean Charity (MEMEC) - a charity that supports migrants, refugees and asylum seekers in socialising, learning, integrating and accessing information.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: led bike rides for refugees to boost activity and promote wellbeing.

Moor Allerton Elderly Care - a charity that supports people aged 60 and over, mainly in the LS17 area of Leeds, which includes Moor Allerton, Alwoodley, Shadwell and North Moortown.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: social walks for older people.

Naya Savera – a Leeds-based charity that runs social activities aimed at reducing isolation and creating volunteering opportunities for people, while also promoting health and wellbeing, inclusiveness, empowerment and resilience.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: walking buddies for older people, including members of the South Asian, Indian and Pakistani communities.

New Wortley Community Associationan organisation that provides support to residents living in New Wortley and the wider Armley ward by offering a range of services, groups and activities to empower them to lead happier and healthier lives.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: pool bike maintenance training for volunteers and led walks.

ODD Bike – a bike recycling project for people in need.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: expanding the bike recycling scheme and bike maintenance training sessions. 

Open Country – a charity helping people with disabilities to access and enjoy the countryside.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: guided walks for people with learning difficulties and the creation of two accessibility information packs about popular walking routes.

Otley 2030 - a community group working with local, regional and national partners to develop a climate and sustainability plan for the town.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: bike maintenance workshops for primary schools, a cycling summer camp and walks for older people.

Slung Low - an award-winning theatre company specialising in making productions in non-theatre spaces.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: a Holbeck walking booklet and schools engagement work.

The Conservation Volunteers (TCV) – a charity that supports communities to be stronger, working together to improve the places people live and tackle issues that matter to them.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: weekly health walks for isolated older people.

Zest Leeds – from running social clubs to developing cooking skills, Zest Leeds aim to improve people's life chances by promoting healthier lifestyles and enabling fulfilling lives.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: weekly walking groups for men suffering from isolation and inactivity, and a walking group that encourages participants to enjoy nature and points of interest using binoculars and cameras.
