Community organisations we've worked with in Kirklees.

BBest Community Hub CIC - a collaboration of 22 local schools, working together to benefit the families of the children in their care.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: a walk, scoot, skip, dance, run school challenge, subsidised scooters, cycle lessons and free bikes. 

Dawatal Islam Committee - Dawatal Islam Mosque is in Soothill, Batley.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: a bike loan scheme with mechanic training for volunteers.

Environment Kirklees - Environmental Projects in Kirklees (EPIKs) is the working title for Environment Kirklees Ltd, a not-for-profit company based in Huddersfield.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: E-bike test rides and a loan scheme with Huddersfield University and Kirkburton Parish Council, as well as community and workplace roadshow events.

Experience Community - a not-for-profit organisation that helps disabled people access green spaces through walking, cycling, art and conservation activities.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: adapted cycling equipment try-outs; group rides to boost people’s confidence, independence and social inclusion; a pilot scheme for wheelchair clip-on attachments to support independent travel over longer distances; new adapted bikes and sessions targeting people who have had a stroke.

Good Footing - Good Footing design walking wellbeing workshops and experiences, enabling positive change in people.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: a programme of wellbeing walks to support people at risk of poor mental health.

Huddersfield Town Foundation - the Foundation’s vision is to create lifelong opportunities for people in Kirklees to feel safe, healthy and part of a community.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: a weekly walking group for refugees and asylum seekers.

Manasamitra - an artist-led organisation based in Dewsbury delivering a range of exciting and original cross-cultural experiences.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: a community filmmaking project, whereby people were asked to make a video about a cycling and walking route in their area.

Northorpe Hall - a charity supporting children and young people under 25 who experience disadvantage and/or difficulties due to mental health challenges or related issues.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: employee engagement events to promote cycling as a healthy and cheap way to travel to patient visits.

Streetbikes - an all-inclusive cycling charity that provides cycling sessions and refurbished bikes for all abilities.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: cycle training for people with mental and physical disabilities to build confidence and support rehabilitation; free loan bikes, repairs and servicing for key workers during the pandemic; women-only group bike rides targeting south Asian communities.

Support to Recovery - an independent mental health charity, working across Kirklees, offering a range of wellbeing, creative and outdoor workshops.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: the coordination of existing and new walking, cycling and running activities.

Team Hanson (in partnership with Empower - Leaders of the Future) – a Huddersfield-based martial arts and kickboxing club, which works with a diverse range of young people and families.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: walking, cycling and jogging promotion to people of colour who are at risk of anti-social behaviour and gang-related crime.  The team works with a diverse range of participants from the local community, including British Pakistanis, West Indian, Kurdish and British young people and families. 

Team Ride – a cycling club which offers support, training and a range of rides across all ages and abilities.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: small group rides for members of a mosque.

Transformers North - a social enterprise with the purpose of engaging and empowering vulnerable adults by providing training and opportunities to acquire new skills and confidence.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: group walks for people with learning difficulties with a focus on planning how routes can be improved by clearing vegetation and making minor repairs.

Third Sector Leaders (TSL) Kirklees - supports and champions the third sector across Kirklees.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: free bikes and cycle training for refugees and asylum seekers.
