Community organisations we've worked with in Calderdale.

Advancement of Community Empowerment CIC – supports disadvantaged South Asian people.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: walking and cycling sessions for young people from South Asian communities in Bradford and Calderdale. 

Arts for Brighouse - a charity to make arts and culture accessible to everyone in Brighouse and lower Calderdale.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: arts and culture themed led walks.

Cargodale - a cargo bike delivery service covering Todmorden, Hebden Bridge and the surrounding communities.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: Cargo bike training for Todmorden residents and businesses, as well as e-cargo bike demonstrations, trials and loans for families and businesses in the Calder Valley.

Crew Heart Support - a voluntary organisation based in Calderdale that provides exercise classes and walks for people who have had or are at risk of having a cardiac event.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: Walk leader training and led walks for older people coming out of isolation after the pandemic.

Halifax Civic Trust – an organisation that celebrates, enhances and safeguards the town's built and natural environment.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: a leaflet and improved signage of a historical walking route between Halifax and Hipperholme.

Happy Days Cycles CIC – Happy Days is a charity providing shelter, food and support for people affected by homelessness and crisis. Happy Days Cycles is a not-for-profit bike shop in Sowerby Bridge that raises money for the charity, as well as providing the charity's beneficiaries with volunteering opportunities.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: cycling activities and bike related skills-building opportunities for people seeking employment or training; bike try-out events for members of the public to help recruit people onto cycle training; pool bikes and a walking group for tenants at supported living facilities funded by Happy Days.

Invictus Wellbeing - an organisation that works with the communities of Yorkshire to offer effective mental health support to children and young people.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: One-to-one walk and talk sessions for young people delivered by a wellbeing practitioner. 

Light Up Black and African Heritage Calderdale - provides information, advice and support to individuals who face disadvantages, are unemployed or under employed, are on low income, have no skills or low skills, suffer from lack of confidence, face social isolation, exclusion, or suffer from mental health issues.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: Led walks and exercise sessions in the park targeted at inactive and isolated members of the community.

Park Tennis Club - a Brighouse-based tennis club.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: equipment to enable walking and cycling activities started during lockdown restrictions.

Space at Field Lane Community Hub - a community centre in Brighouse.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: the development of walking activities. 

St Augustine’s Centre - offers support, advice and activities for asylum seekers and refugees helping people feel safe and empowered.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: a loan, maintain and ride scheme to give asylum seekers access to a bike.

Unique Community Hub Team - a community development team based in Halifax designed to improve the lives of its beneficiaries through culture, youth work, sport, art and education.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: a programme of family walking and jogging activity in parks.

Women’s Activity Centre - a women’s only day care service in the central Park Ward area of Halifax that provides a programme of structured support to mainly south Asian women aged 50+ who are exposed to social isolation and deprivation.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: walk and talk support group for south Asian women struggling with isolation.

Youth Concern Action Group (in partnership with Advancement of Community Empowerment) - Advancement of Community Empowerment is a Community Interest Company that brings communities together for a better tomorrow, today.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: a bike recycling project to engage young people on the edge of the criminal justice system.
