Community organisations we’ve worked with in Bradford.

Age UK Bradford and District – works to value everyone's future, create age friendly communities and put people first.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: social walking for the over 55s in Bradford and Keighley.

Beacon Recovery – a charity supporting people to recover from addiction.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: a walking group for people recovering from addiction.    

BEAP Community Partnership - a community centre that provides services to address deprivation in Manningham, Bradford, particularly in the local Bangladeshi community.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: employer engagement to encourage cycling, including events, challenges and campaigns.

Bingley Belles (in partnership with Bradford Capital of Cycling) - a group for women who want to cycle with other women, stop for a chat, look at the scenery or have a coffee.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: ride leader training to increase the capacity of group cycles, as well as a summer cycling festival day. 

Bingley Walkers are Welcome - Bingley has been a "Walkers are Welcome" town since 2015. This means it is part of a national network of communities celebrated for their amenities, opportunities and hospitality for walkers.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: guided and self-guided photography walks.

Bolton Road Community Cycling Group - a Cycling UK affiliated group, which runs regular bike rides every Sunday from 2pm to 4pm, and everyone is welcome.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: services and repairs of the club’s bikes and free bike services for key workers during the pandemic.

Bradford Bikery (in partnership with Margaret Carey Foundation) - the Bradford Bikery refurbishes bikes, provides training in bike maintenance, and offers volunteering opportunities and placements, as well as a friendly workshop space where people can come and repair their bicycles.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: refurbished bikes and free cycle training for people seeking asylum and refugees.

Bradford Capital of Cycling - a charity working co-operatively to run cycling and maintenance lessons, recycle bikes and support community groups.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: activities for people considering commuting by bike, including bike buses, fitness classes, route and mapping advice, as well as free bikes loans for key workers during the pandemic.

Bradford Disability Sport and Leisure - a charity offering a variety of sports clubs and activities for people who are disabled, including swimming, basketball, cricket, karate, athletics, cycling and more.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: adapted bikes and inclusive cycling engagement sessions at a new cycle hub.

Bradford Moor Pass - works in partnership with local communities and statutory agencies to ensure all untapped resources in the area are utilised to empower everyone.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: a bike subscription service linked to schools.

Bradford Rising CIC - lifting the community through sports, education, mentoring and therapies.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: cycle training and refurbished bikes for key workers during the pandemic, as well as a school gates walking project for parents.

Bradford Trident - a community organisation helping people living in Little Horton and southern Bradford to thrive.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: bespoke support packages to vulnerable members of the community who would like to commute by bike.

Burley Bridge Association – a group which campaigns to build a bridge across the River Wharfe at Burley-in-Wharfedale.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: the creation of a recognised walking route between Bradford and Ripon, including a paper guide and a launch event at Bradford Cathedral.

CNet (Bradford & District Community Empowerment Network) - works with partners across the district to help plan, improve and deliver accessible and inclusive services.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: Community-led walks, showcasing how near people are to enjoyable routes on their doorsteps.

Grassroots Events Leeds (in partnership with Thorpe Edge Community Project) - runs fun and accessible music and community events across Leeds and West Yorkshire.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: pedal-powered film screenings in Bradford and Leeds to encourage people to cycle. 

Highfield Food Cooperative (in partnership with Community Action Bradford and District (CABAD)) - a Keighley-based organisation that makes healthy food available to people at more affordable prices.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: led walks and route planning to help people start walking to job or training opportunities, as well as walking groups for women from the south Asian community.

Hop On - A women-led social enterprise supporting other women to build their skills and confidence through physical activity, including cycling, walking and yoga.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: cycle training and bike maintenance sessions to encourage cycling for transport during the pandemic.

Inspire Highfield - community development, empowerment and economic development of the local area, through training and advocacy.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: weekly walking group for people of Pakistani heritage in Keighley.

LS29 Group - a charity offering support, activities and fun for families who live in the LS29 postcode and have children with additional needs.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: pop-up cycle hubs and sessions for people to try out adapted bikes and/or access additional support.

MAPA Bradford - a community centre based in Little Horton that provides a range of youth and community engagement programmes.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: a one mile+ walking and cycling photography and film challenge.

Margaret Carey Foundation – a charity that rescues scrapped bikes and wheelchairs, and runs workshops where prisoners learn to clean, adjust and repair them.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: a range of activities to support people to commute by bike, including route planning, maintenance sessions, repairs and bike buddying, as well as free bike loans to key workers during the pandemic.

Mary Magdalene CIC - a Bradford-based youth organisation.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: Tools and resources to set-up a bike fix and maintenance hub, cycling and bike maintenance training for isolated people in seldom heard communities, and a programme of wellbeing walks.

North East Windhill Community Association – provides support for everyone in the community to enhance people’s health, wellbeing and living conditions.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: balance bike sessions with local schools.

North of England Activities and Training - supporting activities for young people (aged 11-25) and training for activity leaders.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: a regular walking programme with the option for participants to access walk leader training. 

Norwood Neighbourhood Association - promotes and supports the quality of life, common interests, rights, safety and wellbeing of the residents and communities in Shipley’s Norwood neighbourhood.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: the creation of a Shipley cycling and walking steering group to engage people in discussions and activities.

Play Bradford - a charity aimed at ensuring children across Bradford have an opportunity to, and benefit from, play.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: a project encouraging young people to travel by bike.

Scholemoor Beacon CIO - A community hub serving the Scholemoor Estate in Bradford.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: supporting job club members to cycle to interviews and jobs, cycle confidence training and “Dr Bike” drop-ins for people to access minor bike repairs.

Shape UK - a community organisation that offers sport and health activities, as well as support for people to gain basic vocational skills.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: a walking and exercise group focused on addressing health issues that affect people of colour. 

Social Outreach Services CIC - provides services for families, adults and children with learning and physical disabilities, as well as young people not in education, employment or training.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: guided rides for people with learning difficulties.

Sports Mentoring Community Association – specialises in supporting young people through various community and sports projects.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: cycle training and social rides for women.

Summat Creative - co-creates sports and arts activities for, and with, people with learning disabilities and neurodiversity.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: walks for people with learning disabilities in Shipley and Saltaire.  

Tasif Khan Community Boxing Academy - provides a broad range of activities aimed at engaging and inspiring young people.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: cycling activities for young people at risk of drug abuse and crime. 

Undercliffe Cemetery Charity - restores and cares for the Victorian cemetery as a community green space and hub for educational activities.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: a signed walking trail around the cemetery.

University of Bradford Student Union – provides a range of support for people studying at the University of Bradford.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: a walking group led by and for students with dependents. 

Victoria Primary School (in partnership with Nurture Academies Trust) - a Keighley-based primary school (part of the Nurture Academies Trust).  Activities we have supported with grant funding: cycle training to women parents and carers to encourage a more active family lifestyle.

Wesleys Community Hub (in partnership with Baildon Methodist Church) - a pantry in Baildon offering food and toiletries on a “help yourself to what you need for today” basis, without charge.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: “Dr Bike” drop-ins for people to access minor bike repairs and balance bike sessions for children aged between two and five who have high levels of inactivity. 

Yorkshire Wildlife Trust - works for a Yorkshire rich in wildlife, valued and enjoyed by people.  Activities we have supported with grant funding: a project encouraging young people to walk and experience nature in greenspaces in Bradford.
