What an incredible experience we had at Light Night Leeds this year!
Our CityConnect riders did us proud in the Light Triathlon on Thursday 6 October and lots of people came down to experience the Pedal Powered Cinema on Friday 7 October. So a huge well done to everyone who got involved and helped us to celebrate art, culture and cycling.
To continue the legacy of this year’s Triathlon, CityConnect couldn’t resist getting involved and sponsoring the Light Triathlon at Light Night Leeds. Following on from the success of the CityConnect Bike Safaris, we knew people would jump at the chance to get dressed up and enjoy the Cycle Superhighway in a whole new light. And we were right, with an almost instant sell out, almost 60 riders booked a place for free and joined us to take part in a Light Ride down the Cycle Superhighway!

Since Light Night Leeds we’ve had lots of people telling us they’d love to get involved with more light rides so we’re currently making plans to make this happen. Keep up to date on future events and rides over the next few months by checking the events calendar or the CityConnect Facebook and Twitter pages.
Our riders represented a whole mix of cultures, generations, cycling clubs, community groups, with abilities ranging from experienced to those new to cycling to those with disabilities. It was incredible to see so many happy and excited faces on such an inclusive light peloton.
Everyone made a huge effort to decorate their bikes at the workshop held at Stanningley Fire Station and really got into the spirit of Light Night. Glow sticks, fairy lights, tutus, and carnival costumes were just some of the things used to transform bikes and riders into individual moving pieces of art.
As the Light Night Riders travelled down the Cycle Superhighway from Stanningley Fire Station, they were welcomed by residents cheering them on and drivers beeping their horns as they passed by. It all added to the fantastic atmosphere and helped to make the ride an unforgettable experience for both those taking part and those spectating.
But the fun didn’t stop there! The following night we were back at Light Night Leeds with the Pedal Powered Cinema, hosted by Reaction Bike Power. People didn’t take much persuading to jump on the bike and help power the cinema and they had great fun in the process!
People who came to visit the CityConnect stand were given light up accessories to keep them seen and safe whilst out and about on their bikes during the darker Winter months.
Unexpected puncture tonight meant I was out after dark but thanks to lights from @CityConnect1 I was well lit up… – Twitter Follower
Our Valet Bike Park was officially trialled for the first time and really came in handy for those traveling to Light Night by bike. We’re hoping to offer this service to lots of other events in West Yorkshire in the near future, so watch this space!
