To encourage more people to rediscover that cycling feeling by riding to work, CityConnect will be running Bike Buses between Leeds and Bradford on a morning and evening every Tuesday from the 28th June 2016.
What is a Bike Bus?
A Bike Bus is simply a group of people traveling to and from work by bike!
All you have to do is join the BikeBus as it passes through where you live or work. Anyone can join, just turn up. It’s perfect for those of you who have been thinking about cycling to work but haven’t had the confidence to give it a try on your own.
Still not sure if the Bike Bus is right for you? For some inspiration, read Lin’s story below:
“I’d been thinking that I wanted to start to ride to work for months and just didn’t have the confidence to set off on my own. When I heard that the Aire Valley bike bus was running a special fortnight of daily rides it was the extra motivation I needed.
As a new rider on the roads today you can feel quite vulnerable even in a cycle lane. The protection and hints and tips you get from riding in a small group with some experienced riders soon gave me the confidence to ride on my own. I learned the route and all the best ways to deal with the various traffic lanes, junctions and roundabouts and the bus always went at a pace comfortable for the slowest riders.
Once you get confident the great thing about riding to work is that you are no longer dependent on public transport and you can travel at your own times. That’s something I really appreciate.
I’ve been riding almost every day now for the past 4 years and I doubt I’d have started without the motivation and help of the bike bus. Every day I ride I save money and feel better, even in the rain!
It’s never too late either, I was 56 when I started!” – Lin from the Aire Valley Bike Bus
