CityConnect is funded by the Department for Transport’s Cycle City Ambition Grant – money ring-fenced for cycling and active travel improvements. The West Yorkshire Combined Authority and Local Authority partners made a successful bid for £60 million of funding, through two phases which are due to be completed in 2018.
CityConnect aims to:
- Make cycling a natural and popular choice for short journeys
- Make cycling accessible to everyone
- Improve access to employment, skills and education
- Reduce CO2 and improve local air quality
- Create a safe environment for walking and cycling
To achieve this both infrastructure and activity based projects are taking place across Leeds, York, Bradford, Wakefield and Huddersfield Centres and along the region’s canal towpaths, which provide key connections between local towns. You can find out more about all of the individual projects taking place on our Projects page.
We’re working with businesses, schools and communities to make active travel the easiest and most attractive option for getting around and to realise the vision of ‘more people cycling and walking more often’
Making these routes accessible and useable to everyone involves asking for feedback and input from the local public at all stages of the CityConnect scheme.
